City Of Birmingham Approves BRB North Landfill Launch Site In a phone conference with Mr. Stephen Fancher, Director of City of Birmingham Department of Public Works, Birmingham Rocket Boys' President Trennon Nickerson was granted formal permission to use the City's North New Georgia Landfill as a club rocket launch site. The New Georgia site, located off U.S. Hwy. 31 in North Birmingham, will be used as a launch site for the Birmingham City Schools that will be enrolled in the fall TARC ( Team America Rocketry Challenge ) competition where club Founder Ron Witherspoon will serve as mentor. This site is ideally suited for low and mid powered rocket launches and is perfect for school test and qualifying flights for the national TARC contest. Several BRB aerospace, business, community and private sector friends have written Mr. Fancher letters and signed petitions requesting that he grant permission for BRB to use the city landfill as a club launch site. The Birmingham Rocket Boys want to thank all of their sponsors, supporters and friends for standing with them and letting their voices be heard and to help make all this happen. With the City's and FAA's approval to use the New Georgia Landfill site, BRB has at present three year round launch sites at their disposal. The Phoenix Turf Sod Farm (Talladega County) for low, mid and high powered launches; The Cedar Roost Ranch (Childersburg) for low and mid powered launches; The New Georgia Landfill (Birmingham) for low and mid powered launches. The BRB club feels extremely blessed and fortunate to have three fields to fly their rockets from year round and for having such a great group of sponsors, supporters and friends |
