Birmingham City Schools
"TARC" (Team America Rocketry Challenge) is an annual event that is sponsored by the NAR (National Association Of Rocketry) and the AIA (Aerospace Industries Association). The challenge is for qualifying high school and middle school teams to design and build their own two-stage model rocket which they will use to launch two raw eggs to an altitude of 1,250 feet and safely recover without breaking. A grand prize pool of over $50,000 in cash and savings bonds will be shared by the top ten teams. BRB Founder Ronald Witherspoon was invited by Dr. Spencer Horn ( Science Administrator, Birmingham city schools) to discuss the TARC ( Team America Rocketry Challenge) program with his staff and to give a preview of Apogee's RockSim software. After talking to BRB Founder Witherspoon during their initial meeting last month, Dr. Horn had expressed his interest in fielding one or more Birmingham school rocket teams this fall in the upcoming TARC competition. After the teachers decide among themselves who will be participating in the program, Dr. Horn will present BRB with a school to mentor this fall. Several of the teachers asked questions and seemed very interested in the TARC concept. Dr. Horn Ron for attending the workshop and for the information that was shared with his staff. Ron left excited and inspired from their meeting with Dr. Horn and his staff and believe that the city schools of Birmingham will be well represented this fall in the upcoming TARC competition. |
